Do You Remem8er Me

Maybe it’s the context from the comic, but I get a sort of wintry vibe from the opening to this song. Or maybe it’s the fact that I subconsciously mistook the tambourine for sleigh bells (oops). But hey, the Solstice is in a few hours, so let’s just roll with it.

To be honest, I’m not sure what to make of Vriska. I used to dislike her, but now I’m mostly just ambivalent, which from what I’ve seen probably puts me in the minority. I don’t mourn her as a tragic hero or anything like that, but I accept that she lived and died being who she was (and may yet return, who knows?). And although I know a lot of h8ers probably still cried to this song, it didn’t quite get the same reaction out of me, probably because I’m just not all that emotional to begin with.

As for the song itself, Mr. Brown’s commentary on the matter sums up the more obvious inspirations. I’ve also heard it compared to the Lion King soundtrack, and I can certainly hear the similarities. Whether or not it was intentional, it captures the rather majestic qualities of the Homestuck afterlife and all the potential it represents.
